  • No more public website on Office 365

Now that there will no longer be a public website on Office 365 SharePoint it is time to move away. The choice has been to go to WordPress on GoDaddy. Let’s see how it goes.

It is possible to have a one year extension on your Office 365 SharePoint public website. Click here for details. If you select this your new deadline will be 31st March 2018.

  • Office 365 Public Website Slideshow

Just had fun testing a phot slide show on the website. After much searching I found this article http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint-help/add-a-slide-show-to-a-web-page-HA104092377.aspx that shows how you use the internal team site.

The webpart is not available by defaul on the public website, but you can download it from the team site and upload it to the public website.

    The webpart is: MSPictureLibrarySlideshow.webpart

    Have fun

  • Office 365 Public Website favicon

I had a little fun sorting this out but here are the basic steps I took to get it working. This is using the upgraded version of Office 365 using SharePoint 2013.

    • Create favicon.ico in GIMP
    • Download SharePoint 2013 Designer and run
    • Navigate to Site Assets
      • Import favicon.ico
    • Navigate to Master Pages
      • I ended up editing both the .html and .master pages of the pages I am using.
        • oslo.html
        • oslo.master
        • oslo-mobile.master
        • seattle.master
        • seattle.master
      • Checked each file out
      • Found the current favicon path and changed it to /siteassets/favicon.ico
      • Check the files in
    • The favicon now showed when logged into the website but not for guest anonymous access. The trick was.
    • Log in to Office 365 public website
    • Click on the settings cog and select Site settings
    • Under Look and Feel select design manager
    • Select 3. Edit Master Pages
    • My pages were in Draft Approval Status
    • Click the three dots for the page
    • Click the three dots on the pop up for the page
    • Select to Publish the master version of the page.
    • Log out and you should have your favicon working…I did.

    Good luck

  • Office 365 Student OSA Keys

UPDATE: This has changed a bit now as the license centre has an online activation menu option. This will prompt you for a business Office 365 account login. Make sure your Microsoft Account you use and the Business Account on Office 365 are correct and the licenses will be added or renewed on your subscription.

If you use the Student Advantage licencing for Office in Office 365 then you will get an OSA product key. This is to activate the retail version of Office that can be downloaded from Office 365. To assign the key log in to your school’s Office 365 site and go to the link: https://portal.microsoftonline.com/Commerce/ProductKeyRedeem.aspx?paymenttype=1

This adds the license that you have purchased to be available to assign to student user accounts.

When the student logs in to Office 365 they will get an option to download and install Office.

If the school does not have great download speeds then use the Office Deployment tool to download a copy: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36778 with instructions: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219424.aspx#BKMK_DownloadC2R

Create your suitable configuration file and install.

If there are errors installing it may be due to old or part installation of office on the computer. Use the tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501 to remove any previous Office installations.

  • Office 365 Contact Us Form

There is an app in the SharePoint App Store from Microsoft for free that you add to the site. You can then add the webpart to a page and you get an interesting Contact Us page. It posts to a list which you can then set up to alert you by email.

It is interesting to see that it access a form on a different site and then posts back to your list. I am new to Office 365 so this may well be normal. (more…)
